In the VIII European Symposium on Beer and Health the experts conclude that beer is great to rehydrate your body after sports, because it is formed by about 90%.  In addition, beer can balanced the level of water and electrolytes.

Professors from Harokopio Athens University and  Medical School from Harvard found evidences that beer can helps to decrease the cardiovascular disease.

The director of the Department of Epidemiology and Prevention of the Mediterranean Neurological Institute and an international experts got the same conclusions: the moderate consumption of beer in healthy adults can be included in a healthy lifestyle.

How much does beer makes you fat?

It is said that beer makes you fat, so you would have to avoid it if you want to stay slim. But is it really truth?

Many experts took part of the II Congress of Obesity and Metabolic Complications in Sevilla to present their research about the influence of beer on weight. The main conclusions were that a moderate consumption of beer don’t related to be overweight.

One of the research was Relationship between the moderate consumption of beer, the nutritional quality of the diet and the type of eating habits. The findings this study confirm that people, who has a moderation consumption of beer, has better eating habits.

This research group say a glass of beer (200 ml) just has 90 kcal and just 34 kcal if it is alcohol free. So a pint of beer has about 200 kcal. And if it is alcohol free, it has less than 100 kcal.

So if you want to know how much beer can makes you fat, you have to consider your life stile and your own nutrition. For example it is not the same effect if you have a sedentary lifestyle, as well as what you eat with your beer.

Which kind of beer makes you fat? Do all types of beer fatten you the same?

There are many types of beer, do you think that all of them make you fatter in the same way?

It is true that the alcoholic drinks have more calories. The traditional beers with alcohol can have about 90-100 calories in 200 ml.

If you want to take less calories but you do not want to give up drinking a beer once in a while. In this case you have to considerer other types of beers:

  • Guiness beer is less carbonated than the others because it is served with nitrogen and its bubbles are smaller. For this reason, 12 oz. has just 125 kcal.
  • The light beer are made with the same ingredients and the same elaboration, the different is they have less cereal. In this way, there will be less sugar in the fermentation. For this reason, it will have less alcohol and calories, but they still have a great taste. Light beers used to have 90-100 kcal and 3-5% alcohol.
  • Beers alcohol free have less calories than the others, because they have maximum 0’6% alcohol. The 0’0% beers have between 0% and 0’1% alcohol.  So they are the ones, which have less alcohol and calories.

Wine vs. Beer, which one make you fatter?

Without doubt the young wine, which is less 2 years old, has more sugar in turn more calories than the older and any beer. For this reason, the young wine makes you fatter.

But what happen with older wine and the traditional beer? The nutritionist Cristina Bouzas tells it us.

She affirms that 10o ml of wine make you fatter than 100 ml of the traditional beer. However if you want to control your weight, a moderation consumption is the key one more time. Although beer has less calories than the wine, you have to consider that a glass of beer has 200 ml, but a glass of wine has about 100 ml.

The myth of the beer belly

Who can resist a refreshing beer with friends? However the beer belly don’t like anybody. Are you sure that it is just because of beer?

As you have already read above, beer has a bad reputation, but it doesn’t make you as fat as you think.

So why does the beer belly appear? There are some things that you have to consider, such as:
